Photographers Comment: This was our second visit to Gigrin farm, the first being some years back. We
arrived about an hour early, and was in position well ahead of the feeding time,
allowing us to choose our position. I also wanted to get a photo of the hides
that meant going in front of the hide line and needed to do this well before any
of the birds arrived. The gates open an hour before feeding and its worth
arriving early to get your choice of position. We stayed around a further two hours.
In
this time we had taken between the two of just over 1,000 photos, one camera
had a 70-300mm lens with a 1.7x teleconverter and the other the 80-400mm VR lens. At points
the birds having obtained some meat either go back to a tree or more often up
really high so they are the tiniest of spots in the sky, and where nothing can
steal their food. When this first happened most people left, not realizing that
this was just a short break and both other groups of birds and the same ones
would come back for more, and they missed some of the best time, where there
were more birds and a lot more acrobatics. |
